Theater has always prided itself on being inclusive and a place for all students to be comfortable with who they are and be comfortable in their education. To this end, Universal Design for learning is an essential step that all theater educators must take to provide equability for the students who step onto their stage. Generally, Universal Design for Learning gives all students, regardless of what barriers to learning they possess the opportunity to succeed.
As Glass et al. (2013) explain, " If students in the margins are to help define our path to the future, they need to become learning partners with other students in ways that allow them to contribute their own distinctive richness and complexity to the learning process as a whole." (p. 117) This site is about creating that environment and providing a place for students to fully explore the world of theater as barrier-free as we can make it. Theater education will only benefit by adding every student to its rich tapestry. |
